Lady Bird Lake is usually off limits but not on Monday. The 2009 Austin Triathlon will be held on Labor Day at Auditorium Shores.
It's a new favorite among Austin triathletes as they swim, bike and run throughout the city.
The Austin Triathlon offers an Olympic distance course and a sprint course. The sprint course includes a 700 meter swim, 27 km bike, and 5 km run. The Olympic distance includes a 1500 meter swim, 40 km bike, and a 10 km run.
All slots are filled but everyone is encouraged to take to the streets and cheer on their favorite athletes.
For those who would rather forego the swim and bike workout, the Silicon Labs Austin Marathon Relay provides an opportunity for weekend runners and record breakers to enjoy the same race.
Teams of 5 will compete against 2000 others runners taking part in the relay on September 27th. Teams will knock out a 12k, two 10ks and two 5ks.
The relay is the second largest stand-alone marathon relay event in the country. The event supports the Junior Achievement Program.
