News 8's Rich Segal sat down with the founder and publisher of L Style G Style.

"I had a background in graphic design and marketing and I wanted to create a product that was representative of who I am and how I live. So, the unique format was to take a community I'm involved in, the gay and lesbian community and put those two communities in a format, like an old Sears catalog," Weldon said.

The magazine features stories relevant to topics surrounding the gay and lesbian community.

Weldon said her team works to eliminate stereotypes, and project a positive image of how the gay and lesbian community has influenced Austin culture.

Weldon said the magazine is doing well, despite the economy, a factor she attributes the publication's targeted niche audience.

"We're doing everything very differently. We're basically looking at every business that's affected by a gay or lesbian consumer, employee base or ownership," she said.

Weldon said she hopes to expand the publication into the San Antonio market by January, Dallas in September, and then take it nationwide.

Wednesday, the magazine will celebrate its second annual birthday party at Mercury Hall from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
