A San Marcos Police officer blamed for the death of a couple's ailing pet last summer, has been indefinitely suspended.
Officer Paul Stephens was suspended without pay earlier this month for giving false information about why he was late for a court appearance. His suspension was not related to the dog case.
Police Chief Howard Williams suspended Stephens, saying he violated policy by lying to his Commander.
Stephens told his commander he was late to court because of a death in the family, but he'd actually overslept.
Stephens was the subject of national scrutiny last August after a couple said their dog died because the officer took too long giving them a speeding ticket, while they were trying to get their pet to an emergency clinic.
Stephens was reprimanded for the incident. His chief said Stevens could have handled the traffic stop better.
At one point Stephens was heard in the dashboard camera video saying, 'It's just a dog, you can get another one."
Michael Gonzalez was allegedly driving 95 mph when he and his girlfriend were stopped on their way to an emergency clinic.
The couple said their teacup poodle, Missy, died while they waited 20 minutes for Officer Stephens to issue the ticket.
