The 41-year-old coach was previously sick with pneumonia, though the cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
Luling cross country coach Mike Barnett said Dean was not at school Wednesday. When Dean was also absent Thursday morning, Barnett said he told Luling athletic trainer Shelly O'Neal that he was worried.
O'Neal went to Dean's house and found him dead at his home.
Dean is a 1986 graduate of Little Cypress Mauriceville, where he played and coached football.
Luling won one game this year, defeating Goliad Sept. 18. Luling's game with San Antonio Sam Houston Friday night in the Alamo City remains in question.
