Robin Hood created a lot of criticism among the wealthy districts in Texas.
The Equity Center said Friday the finance program helps level the playing field in the state's classrooms.
The group's executive director doesn't want lawmakers to change that.
"We hope that the state will begin looking at every child in the state regardless of what their ZIP code is and seeing that everyone had access to quality education," Wayne Pierce said.
Pierce said 90 percent of the state's districts benefit from Robin Hood. He also said the state's education system isn't broken, it's just underfunded.
Equity Center is a nonprofit association of school districts in Texas that qualify for assistance under Robin Hood.
