Slim Storm Chance For the Holiday
A hot mix of sun and clouds may contain a few isolated, brief afternoon storms, so make sure you have shelter nearby as you enjoy this Independence Day '08.
We see a big slug of storms already creeping up the lower Texas Coast this morning (radar loop.) The earliest storms may arrive around or just after lunch near San Marcos and Luling, with our overall 30% chance peaking around 5pm then tapering with sunset around 8pm.
High temps will rise into the mid 90s in general with a few hot upper 90s found especially where the rain doesn't fall. Showers and thicker clouds may limit temps in Hays, Caldwell, and Gillespie counties to near or just above 90. Expect the same drill tomorrow then, as the upper-air disturbance south of us washes out and high pressure returns Sunday, a lower 20% rain chance to close out the weekend with mid to upper 90s. Slim rain chances continue next week, as well.
Tropical Update... Now in the Eastern Atlantic, Tropical Storm Bertha is slowly growing but isn't expected to become a hurricane as she moves generally westward through the holiday weekend. In the Eastern North Pacific, both Tropical Depressions Douglas and Boris have moved into cooler waters and nearly vanished from satellite.
...Heat Stats Since May 19... Mabry: 22 triple-digit days 15 record highs (10 new, 5 tied) Highest: 103 (June 18) ABIA: 4 triple-digit days 8 record highs (4 new, 4 tied) Highest: 101 (June 19) Waco: 1 triple-digit day Highest: 100 (June 28)
Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. Meteorologist Burton Fitzsimmons
