The head of the Texas Lottery Commission said he's not ready to recommend which multistate lottery Texas should join.
Executive director Reagan Greer said his decision won't include trying to join more than one such game.
The state looking at Powerball or Mega Millions games.
Lottery commission Chairman Thomas Clowe surprised many last month when he suggested Texas could try to join both games.
Greer said that while Powerball officials would consider such an option, Mega Millions officials were uncomfortable with the idea.
Greer said he could be ready with a recommendation as early as Aug. 4.
The push to join a multistate lottery comes as Lotto Texas continues to suffer from depressed ticket sales.
Sales for Lotto Texas are down about 12 percent, compared to one year ago, although weekly sales for all games are up just under six percent.
