Williamson County voters showed up on the first day of early voting hoping to punch in their candidate preferences and get out quickly.
But for most, that was not the case.
"[I waited] probably a good hour," voter Juanita Irwin said.
"We walked in, saw the line and turned around and left," voter Tina Pearson said.
Leonard and Tina Pearson ran into even more complications along the way.
"Well I went over to the annex on the inter loop and had about an hour wait and somebody told me about this place and we took an hour to find it but we found it," Leonard said.
Voters said several signs were placed in confusing locations leading them to wrong sites. But once inside most voters said the electronic voting process was fairly painless.
Elections Administrator Rick Barron said since he took over in February 2007, he's worked hard to improve the level of training for staff.
"We had four elections in the spring so we were able to take all the lessons learned from that and get ready early during the summer," Barron said.
After the 2006 elections, the county's election adminstrator resigned. There were also voter concerns about long waits to vote and voting machine errors.
Barron said any machine problems were human error.
"It was something that happened to someone else," he said. "I've been working in elections since '99. I've worked for two electronic voting companies and I have a lot of experience on election night," Barron said.
But he said that doesn't solve the long lines and with 47,000 more registered voters since he started the job in '07, Barron said long lines are likely no matter when you vote.
But a wait during early voting could still beat the expected record crowds once Election Day hits.
