The Austin Independent School District passed a budget last night that many teachers said doesn't cover their needs.
The plan includes a 3-percent pay raise for teachers and 100-percent health coverage plan that does not include their families.
Some teachers said that's not enough. They said the district needs to increase pay by 5 percent and include health coverage for families.
"The school district has $130 million in a fund reserve," Louis Malfero with Education Austin said. "They’re still going to go out and ask the taxpayers for a higher tax rate, and yet they couldn't find it in their budget to address basic benefits and compensation."
The plan calls for a property tax increase of 3.9 cents per $100 of assessed property value.
Voters will have to approve the tax rate November 4 for it to go into effect.
