The City of Austin might have to make some changes to its summer water programs due to a lifeguard shortage.
City officials put a call out on Wednesday to fill dozens of life guard and swim instructor jobs. So if you can swim, you can help.
The city operates about 50 pools around Austin and they hire close to 600 employees – from lifeguards and swim coaches to water safety instructors.
The city started hiring in December, but still need about another 40-50 individuals to teach swim lessons and to lifeguard.
Tom Nelson with the City of Austin said they are needed to fill the gaps.
"It's a perfect job for someone who's a student who needs a flexible schedule," he said.
Nelson said it's a great starting point for other public service careers such as firefighters, EMT responders or even doctors.
The City of Austin does provide training for knowledge, skills and swimming aptitude.
