Austin's Director of Communications has stepped down.

Gene Acuņa resigned from his post effective immediately.

Acuņa submitted his resignation to City Manager Marc Ott Thursday.

It is undetermined at this time as to why Acuņa decided to quit.

Acuņa was named to his post in July 2006.

Ott sent a memo Thursday indicating he would appoint an acting director of communications.
