Austin's Director of Communications has stepped down.

Gene Acuña resigned from his post effective immediately.

Acuña submitted his resignation to City Manager Marc Ott Thursday.

It is undetermined at this time as to why Acuña decided to quit.

Acuña was named to his post in July 2006.

Ott sent a memo Thursday indicating he would appoint an acting director of communications.
