Beginning next year, new homes in Austin will have to follow two new rules.
Austin City Council passed a much weaker version of the Visitability standards Wednesday night.
The two new rules will require the following:

 | | At least one first floor bathroom door to be 30 inches wide; |
 | | Said bathroom must have reinforced walls to allow grab bars. |
The original changes included height restrictions for thermostats and exterior door width minimums.
The new rules are meant to help those with disabilities.
