With rising gas prices some churchgoers simply offered a faithful fill up at the Exxon gas station on Bagdad Road in Cedar Park Sunday.
It was the only station in Austin selling regular gas at $2.49 per gallon.
That's one dollar cheaper than the average price per gallon of gas. And it's all a result of HighPoint Fellowship Church for picking up the difference.
Regular Sunday services were canceled at the church to provide service in the community, in what is touted by HighPoint Fellowship Church as Faith in Action.
"This is a wonderful thing they're doing and I really appreciate it," customer Jim Parker said.
About forty church volunteers manned the pumps during the three-hour gas giveaway.
"We were dreaming up how we could help our community and one of the things that's stressing people right now is finances," Pastor Randy Fenter said. "We knew gasoline is one of the things that impact everybody's family, so we thought we'd drop the price for a while, as best we can."
The word spread via fliers posted since last week. The line of customers stretched back one mile and the average wait for gas was two hours.
"I guess it's worth it. I'm going to save probably about 40 bucks in my two vehicles," customer Jesse Recio said.

"It's a wonderful message that they're showing. They're giving because they care about people," Parker said.
About 400 people who filled up said they were thankful, even though the savings were a one-time deal.
"I wish we could help tomorrow. That would be a wonderful thing to do. But most of us, when you try to help people, it's 'do what you can while you can,'" Fenter said.
HighPoint Fellowship Church canceled its regular services in order to operate the gas giveaway. Its members also used the day to put on a free garage sale, a blood drive, and to do other community services.
Fenter estimated the church would pay a tab of several thousand dollars to cover the buy-down.
