State Representative Dawnna Dukes is now taking up the fight against Austin City Council for a planned movie studio in East Austin.
The Villa Muse project will be located in east Travis County.
The problem is they want out of Austin's extraterritorial jurisdiction. This would keep them out of the city's future tax base.
Last week the city council denied the request.
Now Dukes has sent a letter to the city council asking them to reconsider. She reminded them of incentives given to retail projects like the Domain shopping center and questions why a similar break wouldn't be given to the Villa Muse project.
She said denying the temporary exclusion to the extraterritorial jurisdiction makes the project financially unfeasible causing it to relocate.
