This time last week 4-year-old Illiana Araujo was playing with a new puppy her parents brought home.
"He was an adorable little chocolate lab, and we fell in love with him when we first saw him," Becky Araujo, mother of Illiana said.
But that love soon turned into heartache.
"He started to get ill like the third day, that evening," Araujo said.
They rushed the puppy to the veterinarian and learned he had Parvo, a highly-contagious virus that is potentially fatal to puppies.
"He only lasted a few days after we had bought him on Sunday," Araujo said.
The Araujo's bought the dog from a man named Elvis Boswell, at an intersection in Liberty Hill.
He gave them papers and told them the puppy had been vaccinated. But when they called to tell him the puppy was sick, he said it wasn't his problem anymore.
"He laughed and he said it's not my problem now, it's your dog now," Araujo said.
When Boswell was contacted by phone he said that he takes every precaution to make sure the dogs don't contract the disease, but that they still get sick and it's out of his control.
But the Araujo's misfortune isn't the only puppy that got ill. Puppy owner John Ronningen discovered there were others like him.
"There are four families that have bought puppies from the same guy. Two of them have passed away, and another one has made it, like our little Princess," Ronningen said.
Princess' good fortune cost a small fortune on top of her $400 price tag.
"We're about $1,200 in vet bills with her," he said.

Puppies with parvo
Some families are learning that the puppies they bought have the parvo virus, despite the seller saying the puppies had been vaccinated.

But Ronningen said the money's well spent if Princess survives.
"The financial part will come second, the lawsuits will come second, but first we want to try to find other puppies and save families right now," Ronningen said.
The breeder said he gave the puppies the necessary shots. He believes the puppies contracted the disease after they left his care.
Both customers in this story said they may take legal action.
