At the Meals on Wheels and More headquarters in East Austin, the need for additional resources is growing dramatically and.
Meals on Wheels and More is an independent, locally-run organization that is a member of the Meals on Wheels Association of America, but receives no funds from it.
The local organization seeks to nourish and enrich the lives of the homebound and other people in need through programs that promote dignity and independent living.
Dan Pruett, CEO of Meals on Wheels and More said he has a vision of expansion. He said the kitchen will need to be bigger.
"In the next few years we're going to see a dramatic increase in the meals we serve," he said.
A few years ago when the organization moved into they were preparing about 700,000 meals a year and they'll be serving over one million meals this year. And in the next 10 years the number will be about 2.2 million because of the increase of seniors.
"We're really needing to expand our faciltiies as quickly as possible," he said. "And it's going to take about $5 million."
