Kenneth Hamilton pulls everything he owns on wheels.
And with the cold weather looming ahead he's trying to secure a place to sleep.
"The more cold it is the longer the lines are going to be," Hamilton said.
Shelter employees said Hamilton's plight becomes a common one when the weather turns chilly.
"They're just wondering how they are going to survive basically," Kris Sheehan of the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless said.
Sheehan is wondering that too and is encouraging local churches to help. Shelters in Austin rely on about seven local churches to open their doors on the really cold nights.
"Last night was one of those nights where we could not find a church to open up," Sheehan said.
And when there aren't enough churches opening up, the homeless have to sleep in the elements.
"Put a piece of cardboard on the ground because it keeps the cold out and wrap up in a sleeping bag or a blanket and hope you are still breathing in the morning" Hamilton said.

Shelters are looking for additional doors to open to ensure that they won't have to turn people away in the cold weather. That includes people like Hamilton who will have no where else to go.
"A lot of times we just don't have an answer, there's not enough places for everyone" Sheehan said.
