The first district game of the season is always a big game, but it’s even bigger when it’s your first district game at a new school.
Westlake's first year head coach Darren Allman got his first district win Friday night, thanks to a big performance by his defense.
The Westlake Chaparrals defense is something to talk about.
"The defense played hard and came up with some big turnovers and some great plays that gave us momentum," Allman said.
The players agreed they played well.
"We played excellent. We got all our keys. We did good. We shut out that offense," linebacker Bryce Hager said.

In their 24 to seven win over Bowie, the Chaps defense forced three turnovers in the first half.
Senior James Robison had two fumble recoveries including a 65 yard return for a touchdown. Also, right before halftime, defensive back Sean Potter came up with a huge interception in the end zone.
"First I didn’t really know because I didn't hear the ref say anything. I kind of questioned it was an interception. I was really excited when I heard,” Potter said.
The biggest hit of the night went to wide receiver Campbell McCrea who stepped in at defensive back when Louie Swope went down with an injury.
McCrea proved he’s a fast learner.
"I like McCrea's hit. That got me fired up. That got me really excited. I love that," Hager said.
McCrea said although he didn't play his typical role, he liked playing defense.
"It hurt me just as much as it hurt him. It definitely caught me off guard, playing defense, but I enjoyed it," McCrea said.
Now Westlake is three and one overall, but more importantly, one and zero in district play.
"It was really exciting. It's a great way to start off district with a bang. We're going to keep it going all season long,” Potter said.
Allman agreed.
"We're going to enjoy every win we get, as hard as they are to come by. For a district win against Bowie and such a good football team, we're excited about it, and we understand the significance of that win,” Allman said.
The Chaps next game is against Pflugerville.
