New sports and upcoming races to try
11/5/2009 7:52 AM
By: News 8 Austin Staff

Thousands sported pink and took part in the 2009 Komen Austin Race for the Cure. The 5K or one mile Komen Family Walk was held at the Domain in North Austin Sunday. Proceeds went toward the fight against breast cancer.

A race coming up that has been growing in popularity recently is the Run for the Water. It takes place this Sunday. Last year, it was voted best Austin race by Austin Runners Magazine.

News 8's Veronica Castelo and Ricky Doyle show you how to activate your life this week.

The 5K, 10K, and kids 1K race starts and finishes on the First Street Bridge and includes flat streets and rolling hills. Proceeds from the event help one person in the country of Burundi gain access to fresh drinking water for the rest of their life.

Something you might not know much about is cyclocross. It’s a mix between road and mountain biking.

Whether you're taking on one of Austin’s favorite races or trying out a new sport like cyclocross. Take time to activate your life.
