Golfing to Save Muny
Lions Municipal Golf Course in West Austin was the site Sunday for a Save Muny campaign which of course opened with a little golf.

Proceeds went toward saving Lions Municipal Golf Course.
The city of Austin's lease with the University of Texas is set to
expire in 2019 on this historic course.
That means the University of Texas System could close the course for redevelopment.
But Save Muny says the property is a whole lot more than just a
golf course.
"It's a great feeling," says Save Muny Committee member Steve Wiener. "The historical significance of the course just adds to the fact that this is an icon in Austin like Barton Springs or the State Capitol or the University of Texas Muny is a very important part in the history of Austin's culture.
The golf course is on the Brackenridge Tract, a 345-acre plot
donated to the UT System in 1910.
It recently received a historical marker for being the first golf course in the Southern United States to desegregate.
