The Pembroke Welsh Corgi has been a favorite breed of nobility and the working class for centuries.
Champion Pembroke Welsh Corgi Sun Runner’s Chippua a.k.a. “Chip” is an American and Canadian champion with over 36 best in breed and numerous group placements. He is a stellar example of what makes the Corgi so special.
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a member of the AKC herding group and these lively dogs love to do their thing. Their history as a herding dog dates back to 1100 A.D., where they were bred to herd livestock.
Now they enjoy a more leisurely existence as a companion dog for most families, but will still try to herd their humans and each other.

If you’re considering a Pembroke Welsh Corgi make sure you choose a reputable breeder. Ask to meet the puppy’s mother and if possible the father and that you can visit the home where they were born.
A good breeder will provide you with AKC registration for the puppies as well as certification of eyes from a vet.
The parents should have an OFA number, which proves both parents are free of hip dysplasia. Both parents and puppies should be tested for Von Willenbrand, a form of hemophilia.
A reputable breeder will also offer some sort of guarantee for genetic diseases, and offer to take back the dog if you can no longer care for them.
Their coats come in a variety of colors from reds to sable and tricolor. They weigh just under 30 pounds and only stand about 10-12 inches high, a little dog with a lot of heart.
They have a bold, friendly personality that can bring a smile to even the most serious person.
As with any breed, understanding what makes them tick is the key to a happy, healthy, life-long relationship.
