Charlie Mars, the Mississippi singer-songwriter who has a huge radio hit with "Listen To The Darkside" returns to town this week for the first time since all the radio play. He'll play 5 p.m. Sunday at Waterloo, Free. He'll also play Thursday at the Parish with Marc Broussard.

Their Black Ice tour is named after their latest record, but you're going to get the hits for an hour until your ears bleed, in a good way.
Mindy Smith When:11/6/2009 Nashville's Mindy Smith has been a favorite of Austin audiences for the past few years, to the point where a lot of people believe she lives here. She doesn't, but visists often, as she will Friday night at the Cactus. She’ll be touring in support of the best-reviews album of her career, Stupid Love. The Cactus is a small room for her to play here, so expect a standing room only crowd.

Fun Fun Fun When:11/7/2009-11/8/2009 SXSW. ACL. Fun Fun Fun in its fourth year is mentioned in that kind of company. Headliners include DEATH, The Jesus Lizard, Shonen Knife, Mission of Burma, and Danzig. Of Montreal, King Khan & BBQ Show, No Age, Ratatat, and Yeasayer are also on the bill. This is a festival that keeps getting bigger and bigger, for good reason, it's got some classic headliners, a mid-section with familiar, relevant names and a batch of bands that are truly looking forward. Expect huge crowds both days- Saturday and Sunday.
Smithville Music Festival When:11/7/2009 Jimmie Vaughan headlines a completely different music festival Saturday, as the folks in Smithville throw their hat into the live music ring with an all-day affair headlined by Vaughan and featuring an under bill with Dale Watson, The Jones Family Singers and more. There's also food, drink and arts, at the town’s big park, Riverbend. Proceeds from the event go to Project Community, a non-profit effort based in Smithville that seeks to support Health, Education and Arts initiatives.
