Some Austinites are thinking about South by Southwest 2010, ACL Fest just ended and now it’s time for Fun Fun Fun.
Graham Williams is the person behind the fourth annual Fun Fun Fun Fest.
“There’s a lot of up and coming acts, that’s a big part of it. I don’t want to oversimplify it and say it’s an underground music festival, but that is the bulk of what it is,” Williams said. “It’s kind of made up by people and for people in that very specific genre of music.”
What has started as a once niche festival has gotten bigger and bigger over the years.

“It’s definitely grown and it’s continuing to do so, but that niche isn’t as small as people have thought, or maybe a combination of that and indie (independent) music is becoming really popular. I mean, you watch Saturday Night Live and half the time you have bands like Fleet Foxes or Arcade Fire on it. These are bands that were playing to 300 people two or three years ago,” Williams said.
The concept of the festival grew from Williams’ urge to want to see a smaller alternative to the larger festivals.
“First couple of years it was a lot of convincing people this is something worth doing. Now it’s easie., People have heard of the festival. People want to play it. Bands are interested,” Williams said.
Some of the bands playing this year’s festival include Mission of Burma, Of Montreal, King Khan, BBQ Show, The Jesus Lizard, No Age and hundreds of other bands.
