Thanks to computers, video games and iPods, kids are spending more time than ever alone and indoors.
Texas Parks and Wildlife aims to change that by bringing its "Life's Better Outside Experience" roadshow across the state.
These family-friendly events will give kids a chance to try outdoor activities like rock climbing, archery and fishing. It will also help families connect with outdoor resources in their area.
"This year, instead of doing our annual Texas Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Expo in Austin, we're taking the show on the road," Trey Hamlett with Texas Parks and Wildlife explained. "We're partnering with rodeos and other public events across the state to bring people hands-on outdoor activities."

Hamlett said each event will be focused on outdoor opportunities in that part of the state.
"Things like nearby state parks, good spots to go fishing, places you can go paddling," he said. "We'll also help connect families with outdoor groups in their area. So even if you've never been camping or fishing before, we'll help you get started."
The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo was a recent stop.
"People in urban areas need to learn about wildlife if we're going to preserve it and that's what Texas Parks and Wildlife is all about," Keith Martin, CEO of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, said. "So we think the partnership is tremendous."
Carter Smith, executive director for Texas Parks and Wildlife, said his staff gets an opportunity to teach kids new things.
"We've got an opportunity to teach kids how to learn how to fish. They can climb a rock wall. They can meet some of our game wardens. They can learn how to visit one of the state parks that's right near their home," he said.
