The Settlement Home for Children helps about 250 neglected, homeless and abused children ages 7-17 annually by providing resident care.
"We usually have a waiting list for girls to come in the home," Clemmie Hext, with the organization, said.

The Settlement Home for Children will hold a Charity Garage Sale Friday through Sunday at the Palmer Events Center to raise funds to support its efforts.
"I want to tell you how moving and impressive it is to walk in on Friday and see Palmer Events Center floor covered in donations," Lucy Ross, with the Settlement Home, said. "It's one of the most wonderful examples of 'live here, give here', and we just want to thank all the generous families of this area that have been so faithful to donate to us all year long."
The event is open Friday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., with a $5 admission fee, Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., with free admission, and Sunday from 10 – 2 p.m., with free admission.
After 2 p.m. Sunday, the event will close for one hour and reopen from 3-5 p.m., when the Settlement Home hosts a box sale, where people can buy two sizes of boxes.
"What they do, is usually they bring up the flaps of their boxes, and they come in, and whatever they can get in their boxes, they fill their boxes for the price of the box," Ross said. "What we hope is that when we the leave the Palmer Events Center, there is not a thing left."
Items at the garage sale include arts and crafts, shoes, sports equipment, fine china, clothes of all types
